So it wasn't Deja Vu all over again!
Luckily, the second attempt at the Tutto Italiano ("all Italian")
event at the Larz Anderson Automobile Museum on October 16th was a
success. In fact, many I spoke with said they preferred the October
date because it was cooler, and also preferred the casual voting on
the cars instead of the concours type of judging. This time around,
the weather cooperated — we were not deluged with rain as we were in
August, necessitating a roll of plastic sheeting covering an
already-grumpy "Grumpy" (as my grey '65 Spider Veloce is lovingly
known).
On this day, the overly-priced cars were on display on the lower
lawn along with a few Alfas and others, but mostly the Alfas and a
number of Fiats were on the lower, lower lawn in what turned out to
be a wonderfully crowded field. A very nice display of cars indeed!
Some of the "special" cars were, as usual, on display near the front
door of the museum, notably Rod Burdick's winning Sprint Speciale
and, fresh from the 2011 Alfa Romeo Owners Club convention in
Kentucky, Rick Lesniewicz's recently restored "small headlight" 1957
Giulietta Sprint. As you no doubt have read, Rick's car won "best in
show" honors at the national convention!
I arrived (not too) early to set up our canopies and banners. Since
it was quite windy that day, brochures, posters, etc. were not set
out on the tables. The attempt to do that was not successful, and
instead I enjoyed a leisurely time talking to members and viewing
cars. We folded up the tents and headed home around 3:00 after a
great day with so many wonderful people and their beloved cars.
We hope next year will grace us with good health and wonderful
weather. See you all soon, hopefully at the Holiday Party on
December 11th at the Josiah Smith Tavern — mark your calendars!
