Reported by Dave Pratt Another great time was had at the AONE Winter Party held on February 12th at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, with around 35 hearty Alfisti temporarily emerging from their winter hibernation to attend the affair. A few early arrivals unlocked the door, flipped on the lights, turned up the heat (sort of), hung up some Alfa banners, set up the tables, and turned on the Pavarotti. Around 6 pm, everyone started to drift in out of the snow drifts, hung up their coats, got their potluck dishes in the oven, opened a libation, and the party was on! At around 7, the food was set up on the big buffet, and everyone loaded their plates with a wide variety of delicious salads, breads, pastas, casseroles, and more — what a feast! This was followed by an equally delectable assortment of desserts, which this year included a cake with the Alfa Romeo emblem in the frosting that Debra and Michael Leccese had brought! No one wanted to cut into it, but Debra finally broke down and did it herself. Our dinner, overall, was once again a gastronomic extravaganza, thanks to the culinary fare brought by you all. After dessert was consumed and coffee was poured, AONE President Tom Lesko rose to give a few words of greeting and talk about some of the activities our club has planned. Tom Letourneau also spoke about his efforts in getting autocross and rally events organized, and brought along the trophies that will be awarded at the next club rally. Then President Tom introduced our special guest, Peter Bourassa of Motorsports Marketing Resources and "The Motorheads". Peter presented a video of the Alfas that were the featured marque at the Pebble Beach concours last year. It was nicely shot and panned around all of the classic Alfas on display, and included the sounds of the crowd and engines starting, so the effect was almost like being there! Thanks very much, Peter, for sharing your experience with us! Peter invites you to visit the MMR website, subscribe to their free monthly emails, and participate in some of their many fun events. As the video shifted from Alfa Romeos to Lesser Cars, we brought out a table laden with all sorts of Alfa-related door prizes. Our club purchased a lot of it (thanks, IAP, for the great discount!), but other items were donated by generous Alfa parts and accessories suppliers from around the country. We’d like to offer our whole-hearted thanks to our donors — please see the list below and thank them with your purchases! The prizes included shirts, car care products, clocks, key fobs, baseball caps, coffee mugs, and much more — most sporting one form or other of the Alfa Romeo logo. The door prizes were so numerous that everyone went home with something neat! Many thanks go to Tom Lesko, who planned, organized, and MC'd the event — and even made the coffee and picked up the place afterward!
As always, it was great to see so many of our Alfa friends once
again! We’re looking
forward to seeing you all more often, when this dreadful winter
finally ends and
our events get more frequent.
