Honey, let's drive to Paris!

Maine, that is. If your schedule allows it, here's a chance for a weekend getaway that includes a scenic drive in Maine combined with a world class private collection of vehicles that is offered for public viewing only one day each year. This is the Bob Bahre collection in South Paris, Maine — about a three-hour drive from Boston.

Each year, South Paris, Maine celebrates Founders Day and one special part of the festivities is the chance to view Robert and Sandra Bahre's private collection of automobiles, which includes an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B. This year, the date is Saturday, July 20th. A donation to the Hamlin Memorial Library of $10 per person is charged.

For some club members North of the Massachusetts border, it may be doable as a day trip. But six-plus hours of driving in a round trip calls for a sleep-over for this Alfista. There are a number of possibilities available with this option — return via L.L.Bean in Freeport and a drive down the coast, or perhaps drive west to the North Conway area and return through New Hampshire.

Directions to South Paris: North on I-95, the Maine Turnpike, to Exit 63 - Gray, ME. Turn LEFT at exit, drive over I-95 and immediately turn RIGHT onto Rt. 26A. In a mile or so, Rt. 26A ends, becoming Rt. 26 NORTH. Stay on Rt. 26 NORTH for about 30 miles until reaching South Paris. Signs to the Bahre collection are posted. The address is: 16 Hannibal Hamlin Drive, South Paris, ME.
