Winter Party

We finally pulled it off!  After a couple of postponements due to our New England Winter weather (including the Blizzard of ’13), the annual AONE Winter Potluck Dinner Party finally happened, with a couple of weeks still left in Winter. The Faithful gathered once again at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, for an evening of fun, food, and frivolity on Saturday, March 2nd. Although our attendance was down a bit from average (no doubt due to the postponements), the attendees were a boisterous bunch, and you couldn’t tell the difference by listening to us.

A brief hour-long AONE Directors meeting preceded the party, at which were discussed several club topics, including the possible participation in a bid to host a future AROC convention in collaboration with the CT and NY chapters. You’ve all received a club email written by John DeWaele on the idea, and will be hearing more on it as things unfold.

But when the food came out, the meeting promptly adjourned! For some reason, the smaller number of people didn’t seem to result in a smaller amount of food — it was really quite a feast! Several various types of pasta, salads, breads, calzones — a wonderful, assorted spread. An equally assorted array of fine desserts followed not far behind. Providing background to all this was a free-running slide show of photos from last year’s AONE events, compiled by President Tom Lesko.

After dinner, Peter Bourassa of Motorsports Marketing Resources gave a short talk inviting our members to the upcoming evening with Alain de Cadenet that MMR is presenting. Alain is the former race car driver who hosted the terrific Victory by Design series on famous racing automobile marques. It takes place on March 26th — click here for more info. Peter also donated a beautiful print signed my Michael Schumacher as a door prize. And Peter even helped clean up the place after the party broke up!

Ah, the door prizes. Lots of goodies for everybody, some more Alfa-related than others. There were Alfa Romeo clocks and Alfa Romeo oil filters. Special thanks go out to the following Alfa parts suppliers for their kind donations: Classic Alfa in England, Jon Norman's Alfa Parts in CA, and Centerline Alfa in Boulder. Other door prizes were either donated by club members or purchased by the club. Andy Kress of Performatek provided several nice travel mugs emblazoned with the Alfa Romeo script at a reduced price.

Sometimes, once the door prizes are depleted, that’s the signal for people to leave, but that didn’t happen this time — the gang hung around much longer, finishing the wine, have a little more dessert, sipping some coffee. Eventually, though, people started drifting off toward home, and another great Potluck was, uhhh, under our belts. Thanks to everyone who came, and thanks once again to Tom Lesko for making all the arrangements!Tiny Quadrifoglio
