Here is a fun and informative tech session with a bit of a twist. On November 16th, AONE members are invited to experience the powder coating process at Innovative Powder Coating in North Providence, R.I. I had the opportunity to visit Innovative a few months ago with the British Car Club and thought that the Alfa Club members would enjoy it as well. Many people wonder about the difference between painting and powder coating, so this session should answer a lot of questions. It may give us all a few ideas as we plot our winter projects!
Arrangements have been made with the owner of Innovative to powder coat an Alfa V-6 plenum so members can get an even better idea of the process, and how they can use powder coating to dress up their Alfas, especially engine compartments. In addition, after the powder coating of the plenum is completed, I will be giving a short demo on how to sand down and polish out the highlights in order to provide an even more pleasing presentation of one’s engine compartment. (See photo below of my recently detailed engine compartment.) Powder coating is also a very inexpensive way of refurbishing our soiled (but not bent or badly chipped) mag wheels! (Below is a shot of my four 164S wheels that I just had done.) After the tech session (approximately 12 noon, the official ending of the event), those interested can head back to Twin River for lunch at the Wicked Good Sports Grill. After lunch, those who like can hang around and try their luck. Who knows — the right roll of the dice just might put a 4C in your garage! We will be meeting at the “Gazebo” on Route 116 (605 West Greenville Rd) in North Scituate, RI, at 8:30. This location sits between Routes 6 and 6A, with the gazebo sitting right on Route 116 at a small sports complex. We are looking at a 10:00 AM arrival at Innovative, so please be prompt and let me know if you and a copilot will be attending. Innovative’s website can be viewed at www.Innovativecoating.com; they are located at 78 Tiffany St. in North Providence, RI. Please let us know if you're coming! Innovative is a somewhat small facility and, if the interest is high, I may have to limit the number of participants. I will be out of the state until a couple of days before the event, so please contact John DeWaele at 401-742-6660 or jdewaele@aol.com as soon as possible. The deadline for signing up is Wednesday, November 13th!
