Postponed from January 10th Inclement weather? No, it's the Patriots playoff game! Turns out that the Pats and Ravens will be knocking heads at exactly the same time our movie party was scheduled on the 10th. So rather than ask them for a delay of game, we've graciously consented to do it.
We're Off to the movies again! Yes, our next AONE Pizza and a Movie Night is coming right up on Saturday, January 17th (postponed from January 10th), at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA. Our previous screening parties have been big hits — we showed Rush last Spring and The Racers back in November, and had excellent turnouts for both events. For this outing, we'll be presenting Following the film, a short special will be shown which portrays how James Garner and the other movie stars were taught to drive formula two cars for shots taken after the races, and how the actual races during the 1966 season were filmed by Phil Hill driving a Ford GT40 with a camera mounted on the roof. Interesting stuff! Our official club movie buff / collector, Phil Bostwick, will again be introducing the film and giving us some insights that we might otherwise not be privy to. Phil has just finished gracing us with Part II of his terrific article, The Golden Age of Motor Racing. Part I covered the period from 1948 through 1959, which was the era that our previous film, The Racers, took place in. Part II covers the period from 1960 through 1966 and Grand Prix will show actual shots of some of the formula one races during the 1966 season. Click here to read The Golden Age of Racing
And, of course, there's pizza! We'll have popcorn available to munch on during the movie, and the club will supply bottled water and soft drinks. If you prefer an alternative beverage with your movies, popcorn, and pizza, bring your own. Please note the earlier starting time to accommodate the lengthier movie. Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. A donation of $10 per person (members and guests; $20 for non-members) at the door will help defray the hall rental and pizza expenses. So that we know how much pizza to get, you must sign up with Peter Walker (anderwalk@earthlink.net or 978-524-8102) by Friday, January 16th, at the latest. See you at the flicks! Arrive around 3:30PM — the lights go down at 4:00 sharp! Directions to the Josiah Smith Tavern From the East: Take Route 128 (I-95) to the Weston/Route 20 exit (Exit 26).
