We're Off to the movies again! Yes, our next AONE Pizza and a Movie Night is coming right up on Saturday, January 30th. Our previous screening parties have been big hits — we showed Rush and Grand Prix last year, and The Racers the year before, and had excellent turnouts each time.

For this outing, we'll be presenting Winning - The Racing Life of Paul Newman, a film released just last year. Most of you know that Newman, in addition to being a superb actor (and heartthrob), became a skilled and successful race car driver, who could often be seen racing and in the paddocks at our beloved Lime Rock Park. Here's a quick synopsis:

The world knows Paul Newman as an Academy Award winning actor with a fifty-plus year career as one of the most prolific and revered actors in American cinema. He was also well known for his philanthropy — Newman's Own has given more than four hundred and thirty million dollars to charities around the world. Yet few know the gasoline-fueled passion that became so important in this complex, multifaceted man's makeup. Newman's deep-seeded passion for racing was so intense that it nearly sidelined his acting career. His racing career spanned thirty-five years. Newman won four national championships as a driver and eight championships as an owner. Not bad for a guy who didn't even start racing until he was forty-seven years old!

Please note the different venue! This time, we'll be setting up in Dave & Vi Pratt's living room in Dedham, MA. It's centrally located, just a mile and a half off Route 128 (I-95). This change will save the club money and make it easier to change the date in case of inclement weather (or a Pats playoff game, as was the case last year).

Following the film, there's pizza! We'll have popcorn available to munch on during the movie, and the club will supply bottled water and soft drinks. Also, this is Casa Pratt, which translates to ... free homebrew! (There'll be an English ale and oatmeal stout on tap.) If you prefer an alternative beverage, please bring your own.

After pizza, our official club movie buff / collector, Phil Bostwick, has put together a shortened version of The Marque of a Legend, a film from his collection, which is "the story of man's quest for the Ultimate Sports Car". Phil has edited it to present the classic race cars of days gone by (including Alfa Romeo, of course), omitting some of the more modern stuff. It runs 44 minutes, is really interesting, and you'll be hard pressed to find it elsewhere!

All of this, don't forget, will be displayed on our club's spiffy big-screen, multi-channel audio/video system for your viewing and listening pleasure.

There is no charge for members and their families, but we'll be asking a $10 donation from non-members to help defray the pizza expense. So that we know how much pizza to get, you must sign up with Dave Pratt (dave@dvpratt.com or 781-320-8208) by Friday, January 29th, at the latest.

Arrive around 5:00PM — the lights go down at 5:30 sharp! Please note the later starting time due to the days getting longer! See you at the flicks!Tiny Quadrifoglio

Directions to Dave & Vi Pratt's
(See Map & Directions button above)

Teatro a Casa Pratt is located at 300 Westfield Street, Dedham, MA. Take Route 128 (I-95) to Exit 16 for Route 109 east toward Dedham. In about 3/4 mile, turn left onto Westfield (if you hit a traffic light you've gone too far). Bear left at immediate fork. 300 Westfield Street is on the left, 0.8 mile from Rt. 109, #300 (and perhaps an Alfa banner) on a tree. Parking in the driveway is limited, so squeeze in or park on the street. GPS users: Key in 320 Westfield Street rather than 300, since it's more accurate. Click here to download a printable map.
