Motorsport Ltd. |

Comments: Click
here to read a detailed review. Giovanni has been servicing my Alfas
for several years, and I always found him to be honest, friendly, and
extremely knowledgeable. ∙ These people are excellent to
deal with; there are no surprises and nothing they can't fix or repair.
As well, they have a body shop and many parts. ∙ John
knows everything about Italian and German cars. Dealing with him is
always a positive experience. ∙ In July 2008 I purchased
a 1972 GTV 2000. Although I had owned several vintage sports and race
cars, this was my first Alfa Romeo. It needed a fair amount of work and
several AONE members recommended Motorsport Ltd. in Allston, near our
apartment in Boston. I took the car there and went over an extensive
list of work with the owner, Giovanni Tartaglia. Giovanni was very
knowledgeable about the car and very responsive to my concerns. The work
took longer than I thought and cost more than I had anticipated.
However, I did not rush Giovanni because I visited the shop and realized
that he was doing a very thorough and professional job. His shop rates
are competitive and he was able to locate some hard-to-find parts. He
was very friendly and responsive throughout. I can recommend his shop to
other AONE members. |

Beverly The
Upholstery Doctor |
|
|
Comments: Tom did a wonderful and
historically-correct set of interior carpets for my Alfa Romeo Giulietta
SZ. A truly super job - I loved it! ∙ The Upholstery
Doctor made me a new set of carpets completely from scratch. They are
perfect in every way. They look and feel exactly like the original
equipment carpets and still look like new after 15 years! ∙
The stitching of the driver's seat squab in my Alfa 164L deteriorated
and the seams came apart. Tom re-stitched the seat so well that it
looked just like a factory-fresh job. |

George's Trim Shop |
|
|
Comments: George does show-quality upholstery
for autos and boats in his small shop in Easthampton. He is a long-time
auto restorer with a passion for 50's Oldsmobiles, but had no problem
jumping into restoring my Alfa Romeo seats and door panels. |
Everett Brake & Truck Supply, Inc. |
|
|
Comments: Their only business is brake
relining, primarily for trucks — but they will do cars. Ho bonding —
they only reline using rivets. They knew the lining specs and did the
rear shoes for my '63 Spider. Drop off your shoes and a drum. Did mine
in three business-day turnaround. Labor intensive — not cheap. Tom has
been in the business 30+ years and obviously knows his stuff. Very
satisfied with the work. Very scary location. |

Custom Metal Restoration |

Comments: Concours-quality metal refinishing.
Restoration and chrome plating even on die-cast "pot" metal pieces.
Small shop with highest quality. Pricey but well worth it. Tell Mickey
that Terry sent you. |

European Motorsports |
|
|
Comments: I have know Michael since 1988 when
I was selling new Lamboghinis and took a new LM002 to him for a trani
rebuild. He had it completely torn down and back in working order in no
time. He loves all Italian cars and it shows. If you visit today, you
will see a very clean '93 Spider for sale, as well as an awesome '74
Merak for under $30K. In the shop today is an '89 Countach in for a
clutch and late-model Maserati having its engine rebuilt. |

Kustom & Restoration Specialties |
|
|
Comments: I know Pete from another shop that
he worked at before going out on his own. He did really nice work there,
and seems intuitive about working on old sports cars. I will be having
some work done by him this Spring on my Spider and will update this
listing when finished. |

Motorsports |
|
|
Comments: Paul (with Michael Wrigley)
has re-opened for service and performance work. Together they provide
over 60 years of devoted Alfa service, vintage racing, performance
rebuilds, restoration, and personalized customer treatment. Also, Paul
now brings his recent experience from Paul Russell and Co. to your car. ∙
The reopening of GMS is second only to the Second Coming as far Boston
North Shore Alfa owners are concerned. As Fred Di Matteo said (and if
you know Alfas in the Boston area, you know who Fred was): this is the
place to have your Alfa worked on. |
Sherborn Performatek |

Comments: Reliable, honest, and provides what
you need. Makes suggestions that are value added, constructive. |

Ellis Imports (closed) |
|
|
Comments: John kept my slowly-deteriorating 79
Alfetta going for a long time, at reasonable prices while keeping it
reliable. Good advice on what repairs were really worth it and what were
over the top. ∙ Very good work, but expensive.
∙
Chuck Ellis had been doing all the work on my Alfa spiders since 1977.
Chuck closed his shop after almost 40 years in the business. |

Chelmsford Auto Electric |
|
|
Comments: I had a problem with the windshield
wiper motor on my '69 Spider, and couldn't find a new part. I called a
large number of auto electric facilities, but nobody except Chelmsford
would tackle it. They repaired the motor, and it works great. |

Comments: I've noticed an Alfa at this shop
from time to time so I stopped in to inquire about their experience
working on them. The mechanic I talked to indicated that he worked on
Alfas and that he had owned one in Lebanon. While he was very friendly,
he was not forthcoming with regard to any specifics about particular
cars he had worked on or the type of mechanical work he had performed. |
Waltham Abko Auto Body |
|
|
Comments: Excellent body shop; have done rust
repair & painting for me, including a complete repaint of my GTV6.
Results are exceptional. |
Waltham Accel Automotive |
|
|
Comments: They seem to have a thorough knowledge
and willingness to work on all models & years. Seem to keep regular
business hours and are always accessible by phone.
∙ Tune-up not
properly done; repair of non-working parts excellent.
∙ John did my motor mounts and exhaust work. He went
through my entire car with me when I first brought it in and advised me
of future repairs. |

Comments: I have had great experiences for
body work, paint, and some minor servicing. They have a strong
appreciation for Italian cars as they are both from Italy and familiar
with them. |

The Garage Valet |
|
|
Comments: I hold Jim in high esteem and highly
recommend him and The Garage Valet to anyone who is looking for superior
results in caring for their cars.
∙ I had thirteen projects and Jim did them all
professionally and beautifully. Jim’s patience and resourcefulness were
astounding. I recommend The Garage Valet to anyone who has a vehicle
they love.
∙ Jim knows his stuff and is extremely caring and careful
(not to mention being an exceedingly nice guy). If you've been looking
for a responsible and skilled person to take care of your four-wheeled
treasure, look no further than The Garage Valet.
∙ With 3 detail jobs done by Jim, I have to conclude that
he is tops in his business, as also evidenced by the high-end sports car
dealers who call on Jim on a regular basis. Jim has the advantage of
considerable mechanical and service skills, so that whatever is removed
to be cleaned is re-installed with extra care. |

Comments: Presently there is an Alfa Spider
and a Fiat 124 sitting outside this shop. The mechanic I talked to
indicated that he worked on Alfas but did not elaborate any further on
his abilities or on the models of cars he has serviced. |
