trust Mother nature …… Mother Nature may have rained on our parade (tour) last weekend, BUT SHE CAME THROUGH IN A BLAZE OF COLOR FOR OUR RAIN DATE. New England may be experiencing a record drought, but we seemed to be cursed when Hurricane Matthew seemed to possibly be heading for us just in time for the Wachusett Road Tour, which had already been rescheduled from the prior week due to rain. Luckily, Matthew skipped us on Saturday and we were rewarded with a beautiful fall day! The nice weather brought at total of 18 cars (including "lesser" cars and coffee guests). And the event nearly drew again all six New England states, with only missing Alfisti from the great state of Maine. We decided to meet at the bottom the Mountain. The holiday weekend and the beautiful day resulted in competition with hikers for parking. Not to be deterred, we triple parked our Alfas. During our version of Alfa "Cars and Coffee", we welcomed new members Anthony Cocuzzo and Mike Hollinger. Also joining us for coffee were Fran O'Connor and his friend Malcolm. Although we were crowding the parking lot, Malcolm (a volunteer at the Mountain) introduced us to the Staff, who offered us free admission to the top of the mountain. We experienced a slight mechanical issue (surprise!) as we got started. Thanks to John DeWaele's Jump Box and his quick work, Anthony Cocuzzo's dead battery was jumped and we were on our way. This year's route introduced some new elements. The modified route brought us from Westminster through Princeton and Holden centers, to a ride along one of Worcester's reservoirs and into its Tatnuck Square neighborhood, and then on to Paxton center. After a brief pit stop at "Four Corners" in Rutland ("Heart of the Commonwealth"), we made our way through Oakham and Barre to Petersham for a photo stop. We shared the Common with a display of giant pumpkins. After many photos and chatting with the locals, we were again on our way. After a leisurely drive through Hubbardston and Westminster, and passing another couple of reservoirs, we arrived at the historic Old Mill Restaurant. Once we arrived, we proudly parked all of our Alfas along a single row and were off to lunch. A final thanks to Mother Nature as the extra week provided for near-peak fall colors and great weather. Thanks to all who attended. Looking forward to seeing many of you next at the Cape Crusade! 2016 Wachusett Run Participants Dan & Deb Donovan - 1988 Spider | |||
