Text & photos (FWIW) by Dave Pratt What a difference a week makes! We had to postpone AONE's first Pizza and a Movie Party of the year from January 23rd to the 30th due to the snowstorm that came into town. But that snow was mostly gone and we had pleasant weather and dry roads for our second attempt. We unfortunately lost a few people who had signed up for the 23rd and couldn't make the 30th, but we made up for it with several people who couldn't make the 23rd. Win some, lose some. All told, 26 sports car fans (and/or Paul Newman fans) came out for our movie screening party. We started off by hanging out in the kitchen (what is it about kitchens?) for a while, sipping wine, homebrew, and other beverages, and munching on chips and popcorn (Newman's Own brand, of course!). Then, roughly on time, we lowered the lights in the living room, where the club's big-screen multi-channel A/V system was set up. Our main feature for the night, Winning - The Racing Life of Paul Newman, was quite well received. Even people who knew that Newman raced learned what a good driver and successful racer he really became! (Of course, there were a few who couldn't get past those blue bedroom eyes.) There was a lot of good racing footage and many interviews with people who knew him in his racing days. The film industry came close to losing Paul Newman to pursue racing full-time! The pizza arrived right on time, a few minutes before the movie ended, so it was back to the kitchen to dive in. Everyone seemed to agree that the offerings of Pizzeria Alto Strada were excellent — we'll use them again. (Well, okay, it's Dedham's High Street Pizza, in case you're in the neighborhood sometime.) The pizza was accompanied by salad that Vi had assembled ... served with Newman's Own dressing, of course! After intermission, we resumed our seats to watch The Marque of a Legend, a film from the collection of official club movie buff / collector, Phil Bostwick. This, "the story of man's quest for the Ultimate Sports Car", was also quite well received and everyone stayed to the very end. And, unlike the main feature, this one had a good deal of Alfa content! When the lights came up, people hung around for a bit and then drifted off toward home. (Except for Vi & Dave, who were home.) It seemed like our domestic venue worked quite well for our club movie night and we'll definitely do it again ... perhaps in just a few weeks — stay tuned! (Sorry about the dearth of photos.)
