We're Off to the movies again! Yes, our next AONE Pizza and a Movie Night is coming right up on Saturday, March 4th. Our previous screening parties have been big hits, with excellent turnouts each time.

This time around, we'll be presenting The 24 Hour War, a film released just last year. Our official club movie buff / collector, Phil Bostwick, recently discovered it, and highly recommends. Here's his quick review:

In 1963, Ford Motor Company was reeling under the competition that General Motors had created with its Corvette, which was very successful on the tracks. Henry Ford II ("Hank the Deuce") spent months negotiating with Enzo Ferrari ("Il Commendatore") in an attempt to buy Ferrari's racing division. When Ferrari said "no", a furious Henry Ford determined to build a race car that would beat the Ferraris at Le Mans in the ultimate 24 hour auto race. Thus, the Ford GT40 was born. In 2009, writer A.J. Baime published a small book entitled, Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans. It was a very well-received book, and in November 2016 documentary directors Adam Carolla and Nate Adams produced a film entitled The 24 Hour War based on Baime's book. The hour-and-a-half documentary features interviews with Baime, Henry Ford III (the great-grandson of Henry), drivers Dan Gurney, Mario Andretti and others, plus footage of some of the races between the Ferraris and Fords during the sixties. The film has received a 5 star rating in several places and is a well-done story that is of interest to more than auto race fans.

AONE Treasurer Peter Walker further comments:

I'm betting that even though the film is about how Ford chased all-out victory at Le Mans, it's not a 100% car racing movie, but a documentary about an obsessive and ultimately successful pursuit of a challenging goal. I think any number of people could relate to such a story.

To further whet your appetite, here's a trailer for the film:

We'll be setting up in Dave & Vi Pratt's living room in Dedham, MA. It's centrally located, just a mile and a half off Route 128 (I-95). This venue saves the club money and makes it easy to change the date in case of inclement weather.

Before the film, there's pizza! Because the days are getting longer, we'll be serving the pizza before the movie while our "screening room" gets dark. We'll also have popcorn available to munch on during the movie, and the club will supply bottled water and soft drinks. Also, this is Casa Pratt, which translates to ... free homebrew! If you prefer an alternative beverage, please bring your own.

After the movie, we may present some short video subjects for any who might be interested in hanging around. Stay tuned for more on this!

Our presentations, don't forget, will all be displayed on our club's spiffy big-screen, multi-channel audio/video system for your viewing and listening pleasure.

There is no charge for members and their families, but we'll be asking a $10 donation from non-members to help defray the pizza expense. So that we know how much pizza to get, you must sign up with Dave Pratt (dave@dvpratt.com or 781-320-8208) by Friday, March 3rd, at the latest. Seating is limited to 30 people and is first come, first served!

Arrive around 5:00PM — the pizza will show up shortly thereafter, and the film will start between 6:00 and 6:30. See you at the flicks!Tiny Quadrifoglio

Directions to Dave & Vi Pratt's
(See Map & Directions button above)

Teatro a Casa Pratt is located at 300 Westfield Street, Dedham, MA. Take Route 128 (I-95) to Exit 16 for Route 109 east toward Dedham. In about 3/4 mile, turn left onto Westfield (if you hit a traffic light you've gone too far). Bear left at immediate fork. 300 Westfield Street is on the left, 0.8 mile from Rt. 109, #300 (and perhaps an Alfa banner) on a tree. Parking in the driveway is limited, so squeeze in or park on the street. GPS users: Key in 320 Westfield Street rather than 300, since it's more accurate. Click here to download a printable map.
